How to Pet Proof Your House

·Make sure dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, and oven doors are closed.
·Throw out plastic bags, aluminum foil, and food wrappers. If swallowed, they can cause damage to a pet's digestive tract or in some cases, cause shock and death.
·Unplug electrical cords and place them out of a pet's reach. Dangling cords look like toys.
·Household cleaners, furniture polishes, disinfectants, insecticides, antifreeze, fertilizers, perfumes, and make-up can be dangerous to pets. Make sure cupboards and storage areas (garages) are secure.

Hot WeatherTips

Dogs and cats can easily become victims of overheating, dehydration, sunburn, and parasites. Here are a few tips to prepare your animal friends for the "Dog Days" of summer.

·Cool fresh water, add a few ice cubes  for a refreshing treat

·On the go, keep a fresh, cold water bottle

·Wait 30-60 minutes after meals before fun and games

·Keep pavement walks brief, instead walk on grass or use paw booties or shoes

·Excessive panting, raspy breath, and discolored gums are signs of heatstroke; Treat with wet towels, shade, and a call to the vet

·On vacations locate animal friendly hotels and campgrounds; allow plenty of potty/exercise breaks

·Never leave your animals in the car! It can reach up to 100 degrees within minutes even with windows rolled down

·Coolant/antifreeze leaks are sweet tasting and attractive to pets. Use animal-friendly propylene glycol coolant rather than ethylene glycol in your vehicles in case of fatal indigestion. Never let your pet drink out of strange puddles.
